  • IBM Connects WebSphere MQ and Sterling MFT Offerings

    April 12, 2011 Alex Woodie

IBM i customers who use WebSphere MQ for inter-server messaging and Sterling Commerce Connect:Direct for B2B file transfers can now integrate those two environments with a new release of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition introduced by IBM last week.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition offers MFT capabilities in addition to including a full copy of WebSphere MQ, the underlying messaging platform that provides integration capabilities for many IBM i and z/OS shops. The capability to handle both server-to-server messaging and ad hoc MFT in a single product drove the creation of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition, which runs on IBM i servers.

Last week, IBM announced WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition version 7.0.4. This version provides a bridge that links the MFT functions of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition into customers’ existing Sterling’s Connect:Direct environments. This allows customers to leverage their investments in both products, IBM says.

In addition to the Connect:Direct bridge, IBM delivered audit trail enhancements that add details of file transfers that traverse Connect:Direct networks and documentation that describes how to transfer files to and from existing Connect:Direct environments.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition version 7.0.4 ships on June 3. The multiplatform version of the software runs on multiple servers, including IBM i servers loaded with the PASE AIX runtime. For specific IBM i requirements, see IBM United States Software Announcement 211-093 (.pdf).
