  • mrc Posts a ‘Timeline Template’ on mPower App Exchange

    May 1, 2012 Alex Woodie

mrc recently unveiled a template that allows users of its mPower Web app dev tool to quickly create timeline applications. The Timeline Template allows users to view events across a scrollable timeline, and was posted to the Project Exchange, a free online app exchange for mPower users.

The new Timeline Template makes it easy to implement a Web-based timeline of events. The template allows users to use their mouse wheel or cursor to scroll forward and backward through the timeline. When an event piques their interest, they can click on it, and a window pops up that contains detailed information about the event.

According to mrc, the new Timeline Template has several related uses. It could be used to create a “completed project” timeline that tracks the completion of projects through time; a “project management” timeline that tracks the progress of specific tasks in a project; and an “upcoming events” timeline that lets users see what new projects, applications, or features a group is working on.

Users can customize the look and feel of their timelines by adjusting the colors, number of timeline bands, the measure of time used, and the function of the drill-down feature.

The Timeline Template was created and posted to the Project Exchange by mPower user Rick Hurckes, a consultant employed by mrc. The template is based on an application that is available from SIMILE Widgets, a collection of free and open source data visualization Web widgets. There are currently 25 projects available for mPower users to download on the Project Exchange, which the company launched in the summer of 2010.
