  • Attachmate Delivers Web Client for SFTP Tool

    April 2, 2013 Alex Woodie

Attachmate last month unveiled two updated managed file transfer (MFT) products that work with data on IBM i and other platforms, including Reflection for Secure IT Web Edition 8.0, which delivers a new Web client for MFT activities, and FileXpress FileShot 1.9, an update to its enterprise-class MFT offering for offloading bulky email attachments.

Reflection for Secure IT (RSIT) Web Edition is a new addition to its Reflection for Secure IT suite. The software enables users to initiate secure file transfers utilizing the Secure Shell (SSH)-based FTP (SFTP) functionality of the product directly from a Web browser. Previously, the suite required customers to install server and client components on either Unix or Windows machines.

RSIT Web Edition runs on Windows servers, and works with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari Web browsers. Users can securely transmit files within a drag-and-drop environment. If a transfer is interrupted, it can be picked up where it left off. A full log is maintained on the RSIT server, which Attachmate says is secure enough to be located in the DMZ.

FileXpress FileShot, which has been part of the Attachmate’s MFT suite since it was launched in 2009, provides attachment offloading for email servers, thereby enabling users to send large or sensitive files via email, without the security or performance concerns it would normally entail.

With FileShot version 1.9, Attachmate says it has improved file transfer speed, and delivered support for accessing the FileShot Web client in Safari and Chrome Web browsers. (While FileShot users transmit files via email, the recipient of the file transfer actually downloads the file by clicking on a link in the email, which opens the Web download client.)

This release also brings security enhancements targeted at guest account expiration and audit records, which Attachmate says will allow administrators to more easily manage enterprise-wide deployments.

FileXpress FileShot runs on Windows, Linux, and Unix servers. Attachmate’s flagship MFT product, FileXpress Platform Server, runs on IBM i, in addition to other platforms. For more information, see www.attachmate.com.
