  • Cloud MFT from Ipswitch Gets Mobile

    November 19, 2013 Alex Woodie

Ipswitch File Transfer last week unveiled MOVEit Cloud 8.0, a new version of its managed file transfer (MFT) software that customers can deploy in their own private clouds. New Android and iOS clients headline the new features in version 8.

MOVEit Cloud version 8 is the second major release of the cloud product since Ipswitch first unveiled it in 2012. The Windows-based software delivers the same core set of secure file transfer features and capabilities that Ipswitch offers with its regular MOVEit products, including MOVEit File Transfer Server and MOVEit Ad Hoc Transfer. This includes support for FTPS, SFTP, and HTTPS protocols, email and Web-based client interfaces, an abundance of logging and auditing features, and workflow automation.

The main difference between the cloud and on-premise versions are how users deploy them. The on-premise versions are designed to be hosted on physical servers or in VMs in a “private cloud” setup, while MOVEitCloud runs as a cloud SaaS offering.

Last week’s launch of MOVEit Cloud version 8 brings the same new mobile capabilities that Ipswitch launched with the version 8 update of the on-premise MOVEit offerings in September. Now organizations that deploy their MOVEit Cloud MFT software in the cloud can allow their employees, customers, and partners to move files securely from the comfort of their Android and iOS mobile devices.

Supporting mobile devices with cloud-based MFT deployments is a requirement, says Ipswitch president Rich Kennelly. “As the influx of mobile devices continues, companies have to adapt their file transfer processes and automated workflows to support them,” Kennelly says in a press release.

The new software also provides mobile and cloud capabilities for IBM i shops, insofar as the IBM i server can be either a source or a destination of file movements and workflows in MOVEit. Ipswitch doesn’t support IBM i directly, but its products can interact with FTP servers already running on IBM i, company officials told IT Jungle in September.
