  • IBM i-Supported Version of IBM Connections Now Available

    October 7, 2014 Alex Woodie

IBM last week started shipping a new release of IBM Connections 5.0, its business social media solution. The big new feature in this release is support for the IBM i OS.

IBM Connections is a social media tool designed to allow teams of users to collaborate through Web spaces, blogs, wikis, forums, and shared libraries (file syncs). The software sports hooks into the Lotus email, contacts, and calendar software; integrates with IBM’s various BI and content management systems; and is supported on a variety of mobile devices.

IBM originally shipped Connections 5.0 in July. However, while IBM had previously committed to supporting IBM i with the product, IBM i support was not included with the first release of Connections 5.0. Support for IBM i was officially delivered with the update that became available on September 23.

The other major new feature in version 5 is the delivery of Forms Experience Builder version 8.5.1. Forms Experience Builder allows individuals, who access IBM Connections V5.0 communities through the external user capability, to participate in and view the results of community surveys.

IBM Connections 5.0 is available in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Danish, Catalan, Kazakh, Russian, Hebrew, and more. For more information, see IBM United States Software Announcement 214-323 (PDF).
