  • JAMS Scheduler Gets Workload Viz

    October 7, 2014 Alex Woodie

It should be easier to see how your workloads are running with the new dashboards that are included in the latest release of the JAMS Job Scheduler from MVP Systems Software.

JAMS is Windows-based job scheduler that can be used to coordinate and execute jobs running on a variety of platforms, including IBM i, Unix, Linux, and OpenVMS servers. The software, which has sported an IBM i agent since 2009, can automate the execution of jobs in a variety of manners, including date-based scheduling and reactive workflow processing.

With JAMS 6.2, MVP has delivered several dashboards that show users how their jobs are running through a variety of charts, graphs, gauges, and tables. The primary dashboard shows a summary of the jobs that are currently running and the immediate histories of the past 24 hours. Users can also pull up a job history dashboard to get a more detailed view of the functioning of each agent.

JAMS 6.2 also comes with a load balancing dashboard that shows details about the queues and resources impacting each agent. The advanced dashboard shows a high-level view of the entire infrastructure, while the PowerShell dashboard displays performance metrics for disk, CPU, and memory usage for the JAMS client.

The idea is to equip users with the runtime information they need to make decisions, says David Kluskiewicz, vice president of marketing for MVP. “Dashboards make it easy to translate automated business processes into concise, actionable data graphics,” he says.

All of the pre-built dashboards are interactive, enabling users to drill down to view more granular data. MVP has also included a dashboard builder for customers who want to develop their own dashboards.
