  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 20, Number 22

    June 11, 2018 Doug Bidwell

We are jumping around a bit this summer, so bear with us. We are running in both the Monday and the Wednesday editions of The Four Hundred this week to get caught up after a hiatus last week of the Wednesday issue. The news tends to be light in the summer, as you all know, so we often consolidate to one publication a week. This is particularly true after COMMON. Er, PowerUp 18.

So here is what is going on. The Spectre/Meltdown (SM) PTFs have been rolled into the latest Security Group level for IBM i 7.3, 7.2, and 7.1.

    • 3 SF99728              Group Security   Level 29
    • 2 SF99718              Group Security   Level 64
    • 1 SF99708              Group Security   Level 83

There is an impact to performance due to putting on the SM fixes. If your system is running full out, you may feel it. Adjustments to CPW ratings by IBM have been made because of the application of these fixes. See this link for these ratings.

A document has been published describing “MustGather” requirements for Temporary Storage growth in*PROCESS Bucket 2 for versions 7.2 and 7.3. Someday they may roll these into the QMGTOOLS, until then you will need this document.

There are new recommended fixes for SMTP and Telnet this week. The SMTP fixes are for 7.2 and 7.3, the Telnet fix is for 7.3. From what I’m reading, the Telnet fix is highly recommended! check the link in the guide to see the details.

There is a new Hardware and related PTFs group out for all three releases. The latest PTF added to the group is interesting reading, and the group is worth putting on if you haven’t applied since the last cume.

    • 3 SF99875              MF64919
    • 2 SF99775              MF64918
    • 1 SF99705              MF64917

The Ocean Users Group Technical Conference is open for registration. It is the best deal of the year. Here is the link in case you were procrastinating! (Just registered myself, see ya there!)

Below is the usual archive of the IBM i PTF Guide to help you work through the PTFs in chronological order:
