  • IBM i PTF Guide, Number 20, Volumes 34, 35, 36

    September 12, 2018 Doug Bidwell

It’s been three weeks since our last PTF guide, but we have been keeping up with all the updates and have packaged it all together for you. In addition to the usual defective PTF rundowns each week, we have seen some OpenSSL fixes and new HIPER and Security groups. It is also interesting to note that as of September 8, it has been four months since a bug was found in a patch. We aren’t sure if this sets any sort of record, but it is definitely worth mentioning! All the latest PTFs are lined up below for you. Happy patching!

In Volume 34, we saw new HIPER and Security groups on V7R3, but just HIPERs on 7.2 and 7.1. An interesting side note on QMGTOOLS, when you’ve upgraded from V7R1 to V7R3 (for example), the option to upgrade your QMGTOOLS will also upgrade your tools version from V7R1 to V7R3. Kudos to the authors on that one!

Defective PTF rundown (The last defective for each release):

    	Defect Defective	APAR	Fixing
    	Date PTF PTF
    	--------	--------	-------	-------
    7.3	04/26/18	MF64774 MA47056	MF64938

    7.2	04/26/18	MF64822 MA47056	MF64937

    7.1	04/26/18	MF64827 MA47056	MF64936
    -----------------------------------------

Volume 35 brought us V7R3 recommended PTFs for Electronic Services (ECS for all the ol’ timers). SI66579 issued on 8/24/18, so check JDK8 as the proper pre-activation instead of JDK6. Also, OpenSSL has vulnerabilities on IBM i, which is fixed with the following PTFs:

    V7R3 & V7R2	SI68251
    V7R1 SI68252

Check this link for further details:

The defective PTF rundown for Volume 35 — The last defective for each release — is as follows:

    	Defect Defective	APAR	Fixing
    	Date PTF PTF
    	--------	--------	-------	-------
    7.3	04/26/18	MF64774 MA47056	MF64938

    7.2	04/26/18	MF64822 MA47056	MF64937

    7.1	04/26/18	MF64827 MA47056	MF64936

Finally, in Volume 36 we saw some new HIPERs and Security groups for 7.3, 7.2, and 7.1, and MQ groups for both 7.3 and 7.2.

And here’s the Volume 35 defective PTF rundown:

    	Defect Defective	APAR	Fixing
    	Date PTF PTF
    	--------	--------	-------	-------
    7.3	04/26/18	MF64774 MA47056	MF64938
