  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 27, Number 26

    July 8, 2025 Doug Bidwell

Brace yourself because the IBM i platform has five security vulnerabilities that you have to analyze and cope with in this week’s issue of the IBM i PTF Guide.

Let’s just jump right in and get to it.

First, we have Security Bulletin: IBM WebSphere Application Server is affected by arbitrary code execution (CVE-2025-36038), about which you can find out more at this link. The affected software is IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5 and 9.0.

Second, there is Security Bulletin: IBM i is affected by a user gaining elevated privileges due to an unqualified library call vulnerability in IBM Facsimile Support for i [CVE-2025-36004]. You can find out more about this issue at this link. IBM i Release 5798-FAX for IBM i 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, and 7.5 have a PTF Number SJ06024 to remediate the problem.

Now, there are three different issues with the Power Systems Virtualization Management Interface. The fourth security vulnerability is Security Bulletin: This Power System update is being released to address CVE-2023-1206; more information is available here. The fifth issue is Security Bulletin: This Power System update is being released to address CVE-2024-35857, and details about this issue can be found here. And the sixth and final new vulnerability is covered in Security Bulletin: This Power System update is being released to address CVE-2025-0395, with an explanation of the issue available here. These last three security vulnerabilities all affect Virtualization Management Interface firmware FW1060.00 through FW1060.40, and the sixth issue also affects IBM Power’s Runtime Processor Diagnostics firmware FW1060.00 through FW1060.40 as well.
