  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 28, Number 8

    February 23, 2026 Doug Bidwell

This week, we start with three security vulnerabilities and a warning about media issues when you put your external LTO drives too close to the running Power Systems iron in your rack.

Let’s start with the vulnerabilities, as we often do.

First, we have Security Bulletin: IBM i is affected by denial of service vulnerabilities in Db2 JSON Store Technology Preview [CVE-2025-66453], which you can read more about here. The fixes for this vulnerability are as follows:

    IBM i Release	PTF Number(s)
    7.4	SJ08547
    7.3	SJ08546
    7.2	SJ08545

Second, we have IBM i Java Development Kit 8 64 & 32 bit VMs Fail with “Could not generate ECDHEMLKEM keypair” After IBM i Java Group PTF Apply, which you can find out more about at this link. The Java Group PTF Levels Providing Java 8 SR8 FP55 to fix this vulnerability are as follows, by IBM i release:

    IBM i 7.6	SF99965 level 4
    IBM i 7.5 SF99955 level 19
    IBM i 7.4 SF99665 level 31
    IBM i 7.3 SF99725 level 40

Third, we have Security Bulletin: IBM Db2 Mirror for i is vulnerable to cross-site scripting and cross-site request forgery due to Angular [CVE-2025-66412, CVE-2026-22610, CVE-2025-66035], which you can find out more about at this link. The fixes for this, by IBM i release, are as follows:

    IBM i Release PTF Numbers 7.4 SJ08519 7.5 SJ08520 7.6 SJ08521

That brings us to the wiggly and jiggly issue with external LTO tape drives. Installing 7226-1U3 media enclosure with LTO8 or newer tape directly above or below Power Systems server can result in media errors. Find out more at this link. To avoid media errors the IBM 7226-1U3 external media enclosures with installed LTO tape drives should not be mounted directly above or below Power System CEC enclosures. Modern LTO8 and newer drives operate within tight mechanical tolerances due to higher track density and tight servo tolerances. Because of these tolerances there is a possibility for low‑level vibrations originating from the CEC to affect the read and write performance of the LTO tape drive when installed directly above or below the CEC.

Here is the rundown of PTF Groups by IBM i release level since we last published:
