  • Boomi Grows Cloud Integration Under Dell

    February 19, 2013 Alex Woodie

When Dell acquired Boomi just over two years ago, the B2B integration firm was just starting to ramp up its cloud integration service. Today, Dell says its cloud business executes more than 1 million integration processes every day, which led a company executive to declare “the end of middleware as we know it.”

Boomi was an early participant in cloud-based integration business when it launched Boomi On-Demand back in 2007. The software as a service (SaaS) business model was just getting off the ground, and Boomi wanted to be there to help customers integrate their on-premise applications and data,

  • IBM Rochester Shows Off Its Agility

    February 18, 2013 Alex Woodie

When IBM i 7.1 shipped three years ago, it marked a significant moment in the history of the IBM i product. However, few people outside of IBM‘s lab in Rochester, Minnesota, fully understood the future ramifications of the changes IBM was making, and IBMers like chief architect Steve Will didn’t really try to explain it at the time. But with the sixth Technology Refresh (TR6) on its way, the proof is in the pudding: IBM Rochester has adopted agile in a big way.

Will says Rochester’s agile development strategy arose as a result of the work it was doing

  • End of Tech Support Looms for JD Edwards Shops

    February 14, 2013 Alex Woodie

Thousands of JD Edwards customers will be running mostly unsupported ERP applications on completely unsupported operating systems if they don’t upgrade their critical systems by the end of the year. Oracle is sticking by its decision to end mainstream support this December for JD Edwards World applications, many of which are still running on IBM‘s i5/OS V5R4, which IBM is killing in September. EnterpriseOne shops on old releases also face a deadline. “It’s a pretty critical time for those customers,” says Oracle’s JD Edwards chief Lyle Ekdahl.

In December, Oracle will stop providing most forms of tech support for

    February 12, 2013 Alex Woodie

Companies are clamoring for new and flexible software licensing models, such as subscription-based licensing and usage-based licensing, to replace outdated models, according to a new survey from Flexera Software. For years, enterprises have been growing increasingly dissatisfied with traditional models, such as perpetual licensing with annual maintenance fees. The good news is enterprise software vendors are beginning to listen, and have started giving customers what they ask for.

You don’t have to go far to find a dissatisfied consumer of enterprise software. In fact, there may be one in your shop right now (it may even be you!). Any
