Some weeks are slow, and some weeks we have lots to share. This is one of those busy weeks in PTF Land. First up, we have the following message to share: APAR MA47979 – INCORROUT – HLIC – 94XXDASD – HIPER. This Hard Disk drive code has a bug! You can read this link for details. It’s not on cume yet, but see the following fixing PTFs:

We were busy at IBM Systems Technology University in Las Vegas last week and also had to chew through the Technology Refreshes for IBM i 7.3 and IBM i 7.4, so we are not our normal chatty selves here at the IBM i PTF Guide. Please do forgive.

So what’s new, you ask? There are new HIPER groups on all four releases. Yes, even IBM i 7.1, with MF66663, which deals with hard disk issues. That’s enough excitement for one week, really.

New (or Updated) Links this week: None this week, busily gleaning useful tidbits from TechU calls material! …

It’s time once again to peruse and ponder the updates Big Blue is making to the IBM i stack. As we report elsewhere, the Technology Refreshes have been announced for IBM i 7.3 and 7.4, which are coming out in the middle of November. And as always, there are some things to check out inside the IBM i PTF Guide for other stuff that is going on – and in this case, this was stuff that happened before the TRs were announced on Tuesday concurrent with IBM Systems Technology University, or TechU, being held in Las Vegas.

    The big warning …

First up in this week’s IBM i PTF Guide, there is a new Security Bulletin for multiple vulnerabilities in Node.js that affect the IBM i operating system. See this link here for details. There are not PTFs for these vulnerabilities as yet, so just install the latest RPM of Node.js as a precaution.

What else is new this week? We have added a “Prtr Links” tab to guide, so check it out. Our thanks to Bryce out in Portland for this recommendation.

First up, IBM has a new support site for IBM i customers coming in October. You can see a video describing this at this link. And now back to our regularly scheduled PTF programming. In this week’s edition of the IBM i PTF Guide, we find that there are new HIPERs and new Security groups for all four current releases – that’s IBM i 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 7.4.

We don’t have any new links in the Guide this week, and we came up dry on tips, too. (It is like that some days.)
