    August 19, 2019 Doug Bidwell

It’s “ketchup time” here at the IBM i PTF Guide, and we have two weeks of stuff lined up. So let’s just go through it in order and get you all current.

In Number 32 of the Guide, there is a Security Bulletin for Vulnerabilities, which includes CVE-2019-0196, CVE-2019-0197, and CVE-2019-0220 in the IBM i operating system as it related to the HTTP Server. Here’s the link. Releases 7.2, 7.3, and 7.4 of IBM i are affected.

    • Release 7.2 – SI69901
    • Release 7.3 – SI69900 and SI69828

IBM has also released SF99675, which is a stack of Hardware and Related PTFs for IBM i 7.4. MGTOOLS is new for IBM i 7.2, 7.3, and 7.4, and finally MQ for IBM i V7.1.0/V8.0.0/V9.0.0 are updated for IBM i 7.2 and 7.3.

It is definitely summer in IBM i PTF Land. There are a few things to report this week, but not the deluge it has been in prior weeks. There are updates to the Backup and Recovery Group for IBM i 7.4, 7.3 and 7.2, and the SAP 7.1 Final update. There is also a new MGTOOLS for all of the current releases.

As for tips, August 1 was National Water Balloon Day, and we did not know there was such a thing. But it is the first Friday every August. Go figure. We will be going through new and updated …

We pay attention to bugs and fixes for the IBM i platform here at the IBM i PTF Guide, and we saw some information in Big Blue’s support databases about APARs – short for Authorized Program Analysis Reports – which is an official response from IBM when customers report a problem with a system or find a suspected defect. Not all APARs get PTFs or permanent fixes in subsequent releases, but many, of course, do.

Here is the interesting set of statistics, which has the number of APARs by operating system release level:

    • 19,392 on V7R1
    • 11,383 on V7R2
    • 7,182

All of us at IT Jungle like to support our local user groups, and being from Southern California, the IBM i PTF Guide has a soft spot in its heart for the annual OCEAN technical conference. This is just a reminder that if you are in our neck of the woods, the OCEAN TechCon19 IBM i Technical Conference – check out CODE LEARN20 – runs from July 25 through 27.

Turning back to the IBM i PTF Guide, there is a new High Availability Group for 7.4, and updates for MQ for IBM i – v7.1.0/v8.0.0/V9.0.0 for IBM i …

First of all, Happy 31st Birthday to the AS/400, which had its anniversary on June 21 when, absolutely not coincidentally, Big Blue shipped the latest and greatest IBM i 7.4 release of its operating system for the Power Systems platform. We have all been eagerly awaiting this new release because of the many new features it has, and we are just beginning to sink our teeth into it.

For your reference, I upgraded a system running IBM i 7.3 to IBM i 7.4 as soon as the new release was available, and just so you know, all the Java licensed …

We are all excited that IBM i 7.4 will be shipping at the end of the week, on the AS/400’s 31st birthday, but there is still the usual tweaking that needs to be done on the earlier and still-current releases thanks to the changes happening in PTF Land.

But to be honest, there is not that much this week. There is a new Java Group for IBM i 7.3, IBM i 7.2, and IBM i 7.1, and that’s about it.

Also, our apologies but in last week’s IBM i PTF Guide, we did a little “fake news,” but not on …

Hello once again, good people of IBM i Land, and welcome to the 23rd edition of the IBM i PTF Guide for 2019. This time around, there is an update for the required PTF list to support SAP applications running on IBM i 7.3. There is also a new version of MGTools for IBM i 7.1, IBM i 7.2, and IBM i 7.3 – and we note that it has been quite a while since we have seen an update for IBM i 7.1 on this front.

Welcome back, and we are back on track after the holiday hiatus with the IBM i PTF Guide. In this edition, you will find that there is Fix Pack 6 available for the Rational Developer for i developer environment. And that’s about it because summer is here – even though the summer solstice doesn’t start until June 21, which is also when IBM i 7.4 ships and when the AS/400 turns 31 years old – it is still summer after Memorial Day here in the United States and people have other things to do.

    Which is good.

    As for …
