  • Linoma Adds Enterprise Features to MFT Software

    January 10, 2012 Alex Woodie

Linoma Software‘s flagship managed file transfer (MFT) software has gained new features that should improve a user’s ability to integrate the MFT software with existing systems and business processes. New job controls, advanced functions and calculations, custom add-ons, and GUI improvements highlight the enhancements in GoAnywhere Director version 4.

GoAnywhere Director is the most feature-rich offering in Linoma’s MFT lineup, which also includes GoAnywhere Services and GoAnywhere Gateway. The software offers a plethora of MFT capabilities, including: support for a variety of protocols, including FTP, FTPS, SFTP, SCP, and AS2; support for moving and translating data among different databases; support for triggering pre-defined file transfer processes based on schedules or file activity; and centralized logging.

The new features in GoAnywhere Director version 4 should make the product more relevant in complex enterprise settings, and are grouped into five areas, including enhanced job controls, advanced functions, custom add-ons, custom calendars, and GUI enhancements.

The job control enhancements in version 4 should bolster the systems that GoAnywhere Director already had in place to organize, monitor, and log all product activity. Specifically, Linoma says customers now have more control over their MFT workflows, including the capability to more easily route processing based on user-defined conditions. For example, a job control could automatically try to contact a failover FTP server if a partner’s FTP server is still down after several attempts to contact it, the company says. Alternatively, a message could be sent to an IT manager.

Linoma has also expanded the array of advanced functions that can manipulate files names and database values and perform mathematically functions during MFT activities. With this release, more than 30 functions are available to the user for performing various tasks, such as creating new files with names based on dates, sequential numbers, and a constant. According to Linoma, the functions can be utilized within IF conditions and expressions in workflows. A graphical wizard is available to help users create the functions.

Complex integration tasks with ERP system and other applications should be easier to accomplish with GoAnywhere Director version 4 thanks to the availability of custom add-ons. Linoma says the custom add-ons support user-defined parameters, and eliminates the need to call external programs, which keeps the integration tight and the logging more centralized.

Version 4.0 also sports a new holiday scheduling feature that makes it easier for users to define non-working days in the calendar. This will make it easier to turn off MFT processes that would otherwise run on these days.

Finally, Linoma has bolstered the Web-based GUI with version 4. The company says it has made it easier to copy, move, and search workflows. It’s also made it easier to view the last execution times of workflows within their folders.

GoAnywhere Director version 4.0 is available now. The software runs on IBM i, Windows, Unix, and Linux, and other operating systems. Pricing starts at $3,995. For more information, see the vendor’s product website at www.goanywheremft.com.
