  • Oracle Touts JDE EnterpriseOne Growth

    February 1, 2011 Alex Woodie

Oracle yesterday announced new packaged offerings for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, including a new Oracle Business Accelerator that streamlines installation of the ERP system. The world’s largest business software company also touted the growth of its Oracle Accelerate solutions, which provides implementation and customization services to EnterpriseOne customers around the world through its partner network.

Oracle describes its Oracle Business Accelerators as “powerful, easy-to-use rapid implementation tools” that are designed by Oracle itself, or by partners. They are available for the full breadth of Oracle software, spanning business intelligence, CRM, supplier management, human resources, and ERP. The offering includes all the hardware, software, financing, and implementation tools needed to get EnterpriseOne up and running as quickly as possible. The software package includes application code, as well as operating systems and middleware.

Oracle first debuted an EnterpriseOne Business Accelerator bundle more than three years ago as a way to speed implementation of EnterpriseOne using the latest techniques of the day. When it was first introduced for EnterpriseOne, the bundle included support for the i5/OS server platform, along with Unix, Linux, and Windows.

Oracle says it hasn’t stopped supporting any server operating systems with its Oracle Business Accelerator program. But the new version of the hosted Business Accelerator tool itself only runs on the Linux operating system.

Oracle is likely to push its so-called “Red Stack” of software with the Business Accelerator program, including operating system, database, Web server, Web portal, and associated security and technology products. Oracle is winding down its support of the so-called “Blue Stack,” which is based on IBM middleware and is predominantly used by customers implementing EnterpriseOne on the IBM i platform. Customers can still choose the Blue Stack, but they will soon have to go to IBM to purchase the software and get technical support.

Recently, Oracle has made efforts to consolidate and strengthen its vertical grasp of computing stacks, from the hardware (Sun’s RISC and X64 servers) and operating systems (Oracle Unbreakable Linux, Solaris), to middleware (Oracle and MySQL database, and Fusion and WebLogic Web app servers) to applications (E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Siebel). For those so inclined, Oracle has become a one-stop shop for all your enterprise-computing needs.

While Oracle isn’t pushing an IBM i-focused EnterpriseOne bundle through the Business Accelerator program any more, that doesn’t mean that customers can’t get one elsewhere. Oracle also participates in IBM’s Solution Edition program, which offers ERP and application software pre-bundled on IBM i servers. IBM business partners can sell the EnterpriseOne on IBM i Solution Edition bundle to customers around the world.

Oracle’s Business Accelerator offering covers five JDE modules, including CRM, distribution, financials, HCM, and manufacturing. For each discipline, the Accelerator tools guide the implementation team through the setup, including defining business process and user roles. More information on the Business Accelerator offering for EnterpriseOne can be found at www.oracle.com/us/products/applications/jd-edwards-enterpriseone/054241.html.

Oracle has made some other changes to its Business Accelerator. For starters, customers in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, and the U.K. can access a hosted version of the implementation tools. It also made some changes with the baseline for financials, distribution, and manufacturing modules, and allows for more flexibility when installing the financials module.

Oracle also touted the growth of its JD Edwards partner network, through its Oracle Accelerate solution programs. According to Oracle, its JDE EnterpriseOne partners have rolled out 31 new Oracle Accelerate solutions in 24 industry segments over the past 12 months. It says there are currently 121 partner-created Oracle Accelerate solutions for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, created by 79 partners in 27 countries.

Oracle Accelerate solutions are available for EnterpriseOne customers in certain industries and countries. Industries supported span chemicals, consumer goods, engineering and construction, industrial manufacturing, life sciences, professional services, retail, and wholesale distribution. Countries supported span the U.S, the U.K., France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Spain, and United Arab Emirates.

This article has been corrected. The Oracle Business Accelerator tool runs only on Linux; it does not restrict partners from installing the ERP system itself on other supported operating systems. IT Jungle regrets the error.

Get More Out of Your IBM i

With soaring costs, operational data is more critical than ever. IBM shops need faster, easier ways to distribute IBM applications-based data to users more efficiently, no matter where they are.

    The Problem:

For Users, IBM Data Can Be Difficult to Get To

IBM Applications generate reports as spooled files, originally designed to be printed. Often those reports are packed together with so much data it makes them difficult to read. Add to that hardcopy is a pain to distribute. User-friendly formats like Excel and PDF are better, offering sorting, searching, and easy portability but getting IBM reports into these formats can be tricky without the right tools.

    The Solution:

IBM i Reports can easily be converted to easy to read and share formats like Excel and PDF and Delivered by Email

Converting IBM i, iSeries, and AS400 reports into Excel and PDF is now a lot easier with SpoolFlex software by DRV Tech.  If you or your users are still doing this manually, think how much time is wasted dragging and reformatting to make a report readable. How much time would be saved if they were automatically formatted correctly and delivered to one or multiple recipients.

SpoolFlex converts spooled files to Excel and PDF, automatically emailing them, and saving copies to network shared folders. SpoolFlex converts complex reports to Excel, removing unwanted headers, splitting large reports out for individual recipients, and delivering to users whether they are at the office or working from home.

Watch our 2-minute video and see DRV’s powerful SpoolFlex software can solve your file conversion challenges.
