  • Oracle to Support Current JDE Releases Through 2015

    April 19, 2011 Alex Woodie

Oracle will provide technical support for the current releases of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World ERP products through November and May 2015, respectively, the vendor announced at last week’s Collaborate user conference.

Oracle apparently decided to be more generous with product support timelines for the current releases of the JDE products, including EnterpriseOne 9.0 Update 2 and World A9.2 Update 1.

The world’s largest business software says that, by setting the start date for its “premiere support” service as the general availability date for those two products (November 2010 for EnterpriseOne 9.0 Update 2 and May 2010 for World A9.2 Update 1), that it was able to give customers “more flexibility in their upgrade planning.”

What it all boils down to is JDE shops now have an end-of-support date they can circle on their calendars. If JDE shops fail to plan and execute an upgrade for their current ERP system by the end-of-support date, then it’s basically their own stupid fault, and they shouldn’t come crying to Oracle that they need more time.

“We’ve listened to our customers’ feedback and set the new Oracle Premier Support timeline to allow more flexibility in planning upgrades and to further incentivize the upgrade process,” Lyle Ekdahl, group vice president and general manager for JD Edwards, said in a press release.

Oracle’s pronouncement of the dates also is a gentle reminder (nudge, nudge) to any World or EnterpriseOne shop that is not on a current release, or is very close to losing support for a current release, to get on the ball and start planning. That is the “incentivize” part.

To that end, Oracle announced two new tools to help customers plan, including the Oracle Upgrade Advisor and a new release of Release Value Proposition.
