  • nuBridges Supports i/OS 7.1 with MFT and Security Offerings

    April 27, 2010 Alex Woodie

nuBridges‘ line of managed file transfer and encryption software works as advertised on the new version of i/OS released by IBM, the company announced last week. Users of nuBridges Exchange i and nuBridges Protect can upgrade to i/OS 7.1 without worrying too much over compatibility issues.

Security is not something that users want to risk not working properly during a major platform upgrade. Since nuBridges’ software is used by hundreds, if not thousands, of System i shops around the world to protect their data while it’s moving across the wire or just sitting happily in DB2/400, the company had a big incentive to make sure that its MFT offering, called Exchange i, and its encryption, tokenization, and key management software, called Protect, worked properly with i/OS 7.1 from the word go.

“Organizations transitioning to updated operating system releases can experience major security breaches or application failures if their security solutions don’t work immediately, exposing them to risk and damages,” said nuBridges chief marketing officer Kim Addington in a press release. “For that reason, it was a priority to make nuBridges Exchange i and nuBridges Protect available for IBM i 7.1 the day it was released, ensuring continuous operations for security infrastructures using nuBridges technology.”

While nuBridges software will run on i/OS 7.1, it’s unclear whether the vendor will be supporting the new column-level encryption capabilities that IBM introduced to DB2/400 with i/OS 7.1. IBM is relying on third-party developers like nuBridges to integrate their encryption technologies into DB2/400 to enable the feature. Two of nuBridges competitors have announced support for column-level encryption. A nuBridges spokesperson was unable to confirm the company’s plans to do likewise.
