  • Wayne Madden Hooks Up with iFD to Sell TEMBO Database Tools

    July 16, 2013 Alex Woodie

Wayne Madden, the longtime publisher of Penton’s IBM i publications, will be working with inFORM Decisions to help it market and sell TEMBO Technology Lab‘s DDS-to-SQL database modernization tools for DB2/400, the Southern California company announced last week.

Madden left Penton earlier this year after 23 years with Penton and Duke Communications, the News/400 publisher that Penton bought in 2000. In March, he formed a consulting company, called Madden Business Development.

Madden will work with iFD through his consulting company to help sell TEMBO’s AO Foundation and other tools. TEMBO signed iFD as its master distributor for the Americas last summer, and it has been ramping up its database modernization business ever since.

TEMBO says AO Foundation provides IBM i ISVs and development shops a low-risk approach for migrating IBM i databases from traditional DDS structure to the more modern DDL/SQL structure, thereby making the application easier to maintain, better performing, and more relevant.

“As someone who shares with the IBM i community a great passion for the platform, I believe that moving to and committing to DDL/SQL is the most significant decision that an IBM i customer must consider today,” Madden says in an iFD press release. “Not only does migrating to SQL represent the foundation that can preserve your company’s commitment to the platform, but this is also key to effective and ongoing application modernization and agility.”

Madden will kick off his work with iFD and the TEMBO tools with a webinar next week. Madden will be the primary speaker in “Moving From DDS to DDL(SQL)–A Value Bet,” which will take place on July 23 at noon ET. Interested parties can register for the webinar at ifdevents.webex.com/ifdevents/onstage/g.php?t=a&d=669039463.

Madden has several other things cooking with Madden Business Development. According to the company’s LinkedIn profile, Madden is evaluating several opportunities, including providing sales training for one, helping to lead a sales team for another, and a combination of business development and sales for two startups. He is continuing to look for additional sales or business development opportunities as they present themselves, his profile says.

Madden began his IT career as an operator for the S/36 and S/38. His publishing career began as a technical editor for the NEWS 3X/400 publications. He elevated through the ranks to become publisher of Duke’s, and then Penton’s, IBM midrange publications. Madden has also been an active volunteer in user groups, including COMMON, where he served as president several years ago.
