  • Formtastic Gains More Flexibility in Managing i OS Output

    August 19, 2008 Alex Woodie

Quadrant Software recently unveiled a new release of Formtastic, its electronic document management offering for i OS servers. With Formtastic version 5.4.2, the company has added new features in the area of spool file processing, image capture, error reporting, and file naming, and added support for i OS 6.1.

Formtastic is a suite of software products that make spool file output from i OS applications more attractive and more flexible in our online world. The software includes a Windows form design tool, templates for specific documents such as tax forms or MICR checks, a runtime engine that merges i OS spool file with pre-defined templates, e-mail and fax add-ons, signature capture, and archiving modules.

With Formtastic version 5.4.2, Quadrant is allowing users to be more picky about the spool files they pick up from the i OS queue. Instead of grabbing all the files on the queue, users can specify individual files to be merged with a form. Several options are available for selecting the files.

The Formtastic Image Capture module now supports low resolution images. Previously, it only supported images with resolutions of 300 dots per inch (dpi) or higher. Now, images can be as low as 81 dpi, which will be useful for collecting signatures on proof of delivery (POD) devices.

Users of Formtastic 5.4.2 can take immediate action when something goes wrong with their jobs thanks to a new job- and document-tracking feature. Previously, users would have to wait. But with the new feature, users can monitor the job’s status in real time, making it easier to pinpoint the problem and take immediate action.

A new dynamic naming feature in the new release should make it easier to configure Formtastic to process complex auto merges dealing with multiple spool files from multiple output queues. Users can now use the *FORMTYP parameter to simplify the configuration steps needed to set up these types of auto merges

Formtastic 5.4.2 is available now. The software runs on i 6.1 as well as previous releases. For more information, visit www.quadrantsoftware.com.
