  • Solimar Streamlines Output Management for Xerox Printers

    October 16, 2007 Alex Woodie

Solimar Systems reached a milestone in its quest to optimize high-volume print output (including System i output) for Xerox printers earlier this month when it announced that Solimar’s Print Director Enterprise (SPDE) software has achieved the “Optimized for FreeFlow” designation by Xerox.

Solimar, which is based in San Diego, California, achieved the Xerox designation by incorporating elements of the FreeFlow Digital Workflow Collection into SPDE, which is a collection of Windows-based products aimed at centrally managing the production print environment, including enabling practically any printer to support practically any host, including proprietary environments like IBM mainframe and midrange servers.

By incorporating elements of Xerox FreeFlow into SPDE, the product can now accomplish several tasks that optimize print quality and speeds in Xerox printing environments. These include: transforming print data streams into print data streams supported by Xerox printers; optimizing inefficient and graphical data streams to boost print speeds to maximum levels; providing central control over job management finishing resources; and inserting and controlling Xerox Programming Information Format (XPIF) job tickets into the workflow, which enables automated print and finishing functionality.

The productivity of transactional and variable print jobs will increase as a result of the combination of SPDE and FreeFlow, says Mike Salfity, a vice president in Xerox Production Systems Group. “We welcome the addition of Solimar’s robust print technology to the Xerox FreeFlow portfolio,” he says.
