  • Q1 Labs Adds IBM i, Social Media Monitoring to SIEM

    September 29, 2010 Alex Woodie

An updated security information and event management (SIEM) product from Q1 Labs promises to help businesses crack down on the leakage of sensitive information to social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. With qRadar 7.0, the SIEM gains new capabilities for correlating the social media activity of users with their access to company records–including DB2/400 access–thereby putting the kibosh on data leaks before they cause damage.

Businesses are caught between a rock and a hard spot when it comes to social media and social networking websites. On the one hand, businesses don’t want to isolate themselves

    September 28, 2010 Alex Woodie

Social networking is taking the world and the Internet by storm. But teens and tech lovers aren’t the only ones using sites like Facebook and Twitter to express themselves and communicate with friends. In the business world, IBM i software vendors are also adopting social networking technologies to develop sales leads, to communicate with customers, and perhaps most importantly, to be part of a new global conversation taking place on the Web.

The capability of the Internet to spawn new business models and create wealth continues to amaze. Since the first dot-com boom and crash of the late 1990s, we’ve

  • JDE Fulfillment App Efficiently Allocates Constrained Supply

    September 28, 2010 Alex Woodie

When inventory gets low and demand stays high, what do you do? You could just fill orders as they come in until you run out of product, but that would upset your best customers and potentially violate service level agreements. With the new JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Fulfillment module unveiled last week at Oracle‘s user conference, companies can rely on software to automatically allocate constrained products in the most efficient and profitable manner.

In this hyper competitive supply chain age, having a constrained supply of a particular product is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, high

  • IBM Updates Optim Data Archiving Software

    September 28, 2010 Alex Woodie

IBM last week unveiled the version 7.3 release of its Optim suite of tools, which helps organizations to archive data and prepare data for testing. The new version adds support for the latest server operating systems and database. IBM also launched Optim Application Retirement, for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Siebel applications that are getting a little long in the tooth.

Just because an organization is no longer actively using an enterprise application, it does not mean the application can be completely disregarded. For one thing, the organization may need to access the data contained within the application and its database.
