  • Kisco Adds Digital Signatures to Spool-to-PDF Tool

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

Trust is one of the most critical aspects of e-commerce in today’s security-conscious world. If you don’t trust that a website or document came from a particular company, chances are very good that you will not do business with them. Kisco Information Systems last week gave IBM i shops another way to bolster their customers’ trust with the launch of WebReport/400 version 11, which enables organizations to use digital signatures with PDF documents that are generated from IBM i spool files.

WebReport/400 is a versatile utility that allows IBM i shops to make more effective use of the spool files

  • ‘Spear Phishing’ Season to Follow Epsilon Data Breach

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

It won’t be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. But thanks to a major data breach involving millions of email address by third-party marketing company Epsilon, cyber criminals will get a leg up on their targeted email phishing campaigns, an activity security experts call “spear phishing,” just in time for the summer season.

On April Fool’s Day, Epsilon posted a not-so-funny notice on its website informing the world that it had been hacked the day before, and that it lost some of the names and email addresses that it stores on behalf of its customers.

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

IBM last week launched a new version of Web Content Manager, an IBM i-supported server solution designed to allow non-technical users to create, publish, and update content for websites and portals, without the help of IT experts. IBM says the version 7 release of the software (which formerly went by the name Lotus Web Content Manager) is easier to use and creates more compelling websites than before.

Web Content Manager is designed to assist with all aspects of website creation and management, including both static and dynamic websites. For authors, it provides templates for getting basic websites, including wikis and

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

Bristol Hospital is using Linoma Software‘s GoAnywhere Director software to ensure the secure transfer of sensitive records with outside parties, Linoma announced last week. Since GoAnywhere Director runs on Bristol Hospital’s central IBM i server, it has avoided the need to move the data to less secure PCs prior to transfers, and eliminated the need for manual file transfers and courier services.

Bristol Hospital is a 134-bed hospital serving the greater Bristol area in north-central Connecticut. The organization is a long-standing IBM i shop, and relies on the RPG-based McKesson Series 2000 healthcare information system (HIS) for much of

  • Cetova Widens JDE Reporting Options

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

JD Edwards shops that use Cetova‘s reporting tools can now access their archived data at the same time they report against their production data. Cetova says the new archived data option, which it unveiled last month, will eliminate the need to rewrite reports or reload archived data into production systems.

Efficient management of the data lifecycle is a big priority in IT departments these days. If a business waits too long to archive its older data, it runs the risk of slowing down its production system, and impacting critical systems.

Occasionally businesses are faced with the need to access

    April 5, 2011 Alex Woodie

IBM i shops that utilize mrc‘s Web application development tool, m-Power, have a new chart type to choose from: Gantt. The addition of the chart type with the funny name will help m-Power users demonstrate how events are expected to occur as a project unfolds.

Named after the early 20th century American mechanical engineer Henry Gantt, the Gantt chart has become a popular type of bar chart that’s commonly used to communicate phases and activities of a project. Project managers in many industries often avail themselves of the Gantt chart functionality in Microsoft Excel to illustrate many of the
