  • Open Text to Support new Windows 7 Features in Host Emulators

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

Organizations that use Open Text‘s host access software will be able to take advantage of some of the spiffy new features that Microsoft built into Windows 7, such as jump lists and multiple document preview. The company’s Connectivity Solutions Group (formerly Hummingbird) will offer support for these features in the upcoming release of HostExplorer version 14, due by the end of the month.

When Windows Vista launched three years ago, terminal emulator vendors struggled to support the new operating system. The companies rewrote chunks of code to handle the new Windows security paradigm and to ensure that established features,

  • Healy Launches iPDF Server to Ease Spool File Distribution

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

IBM says it’s working on native PDF capabilities with next year’s release of i OS 6.2 (or whatever it will be called). Luckily for customers that cannot wait that long, there are PDF solutions from third-party developers. One of these is Healy Software, which recently launched a new product called iPDF Server that allows users to convert spool files to PDFs, index them in an archive on a PC or System i server, and then retrieve through a Web browser.

System i shops, like their cohorts running business applications on Windows or mainframes or Unix servers, are demanding solutions

  • Inovis Boosts Productivity for Green-Screen Customers

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

In the world of AS/400 (Power Systems) computing, there is a constant battle between the 5250 diehards who love their green-screen interfaces, and the graphical types who feel that every computer should look and feel like Windows. EDI software developer Inovis recently proved that it’s not beholden to either camp, but answerable only to its customers, when it launched a new release of TrustedLink IBM i edition (TLi) that allows the green-screen types to avoid traversing at least one GUI to get where they’re going.

Like many ISVs, Inovis has been forced, either through feedback from its user base or

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

The new agents provide change data capture (CDC) functionality on DB2/400, DB2 for z/OS, and Hewlett-Packard‘s NonStop platform.

Earlier this year, Attunity launched the first of its SSIS-focused agents for the Oracle database. The product was designed to provide an efficient and low cost way to move new data from an Oracle environment over to

  • Oracle Delivers New Functionality with JDE EnterpriseOne Update

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

Oracle last week delivered a slew of mostly minor enhancements for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with Release 9 Update 1. The update gives users of EnterpriseOne 9.0 new functionality in several areas, including financials, project management, human capital management, and more.

Oracle delivered a major update of EnterpriseOne with the delivery of version 9.0 a year ago. To prevent customers from feeling overwhelmed by new releases every few months or years, Oracle decided to put out Release 9, Update 1, which is intended to provide incremental improvement without requiring a major application upgrade and all that entails.

  • Bunn-O-Matic Brews Up Intuitive BI with WebFOCUS

    November 3, 2009 Alex Woodie

Bunn-O-Matic knows a lot about brewing coffee. The Springfield, Illinois, company has been in the coffee maker manufacturing business for more than 50 years, with both commercial and consumer lines. But when it came to building, running, and distributing reports from business applications, Bunn-O-Matic’s employees would typically find an IT expert to help them. That has changed as the result of a recent implementation of software from Information Builders.

Because Bunn-O-Matic relies on an AS/400-based ERP system and a SQL Server-based system to run its service center, it has experienced difficulty in getting the two systems to talk to
