The Power Systems platform plays an important role in a number of American industries, including manufacturing, distribution, and entertainment. But you may not know that the platform IBM used to call AS/400 is also a very strong contender in banking. One of IBM’s biggest partners in that field, Fiserv, relies heavily upon the i OS platform to deliver financial services software and services, and considers it a core component of its strategy to evolve banking solutions in the Internet age.

Fiserv has changed tremendously since it was founded 25 years ago from the merger of regional data processing firms

As a result of product enhancements that streamline implementation and a lowered pricing structure with version 2.6, Quadrant claims that customers can implement IntelliChief in 15 days or less, at a starting price of $15,000. With document management expected to be a major IT driver in 2010, Quadrant’s offer deserves closer examination for companies looking to eliminate paper.

  • TMW Systems Buys Innovative Computing, Including 300 i OS Customers

    December 8, 2009 Alex Woodie

TMW Systems surprised the trucking industry last week when it announced the acquisition of Innovative Computing Corp., a rival developer of i OS-based applications for the trucking industry. The deal puts TMW firmly in the driver’s seat when it comes to enterprise trucking applications for the i OS computing platform.

The unexpected sale of Innovative Computing to its larger competitor marks a subdued end to the company’s yearlong celebration of its 40th year in business. Ever since Innovative launched what it claims was the trucking industry’s first enterprise platform way back in 1969, the company has targeted IBM platforms–first

    December 8, 2009 Alex Woodie

Databorough last week unveiled a stripped down “Lite” version of X-Analysis, its cross-referencing and documentation tool for IBM i OS applications. The vendor says X-Analysis Lite, while lacking some enterprise features, should nonetheless provide a good starting point for programmers and analysts to gain a better understanding of how their RPG, COBOL, and CL programs were developed and how they run on the i OS Power Systems server.

It’s been a little over a year since Databorough launched the version 8 release of X-Analysis, which was focused on application modernization. While the new Lite version of X-Analysis doesn’t provide the

Zend Technologies last week announced the start of a public beta test for Zend Server for i, a new collection of PHP development and runtime tools for System i customers. Interested parties can download the beta of the i OS Edition of Zend Server version 5.0 from the Zend Web site.

Zend offers several PHP stacks, but it describes Zend Server as the “complete, enterprise-ready Web application server” for running PHP workloads. • ACOM Delivers a Web Log of E-Mail and Fax Activity

    December 8, 2009 Alex Woodie

ACOM Solutions last week launched a new product called WebView that helps users manage the e-mail and fax functionality of other ACOM products, EZeMail/400 and EZFax/400. In effect, the browser-based WebView functions as a log of e-mail and fax distribution, and also allows users to resend documents using other means of distribution.

WebView was created because some ACOM users had difficulty telling whether important faxes or e-mails had been sent via EZFax/400 or EZeMail/400, two i OS-based extensions of ACOM’s core EZPrint/400 (now EZeDocs/400) offering that the company launched eight years ago this month.
