  • IBM i PTF Guide, Number 20, Volumes 34, 35, 36

    September 12, 2018 Doug Bidwell

It’s been three weeks since our last PTF guide, but we have been keeping up with all the updates and have packaged it all together for you. In addition to the usual defective PTF rundowns each week, we have seen some OpenSSL fixes and new HIPER and Security groups. It is also interesting to note that as of September 8, it has been four months since a bug was found in a patch. We aren’t sure if this sets any sort of record, but it is definitely worth mentioning! All the latest PTFs are lined up below for you. Happy …

We have some catching up to do this week. Summer is winding down, the kids are going back to school, and it’s time to get things back in order in PTF Land. There actually wasn’t much to report with Volume 31 of our PTF Guide, mostly due to the announcements that were expected in time for Volume 32. Still, 31 brought us a fix pack for Rational Developer for i (9.6), as well as some new links on how to configure ObjectConnect, what system fixes are required for Domino, and the IBM i collaboration software compatibility guide.

    Here’s the defective …

It is summer, and it is the usual quiet time in PTF Land. This week, there are new PTF groups for HIPERs and HTTP server! There is good stuff in there. . . .

The SAP required PTF lists were updated on July 20 for IBM i releases 7.2 and 7.3, on the July 16 they were updated for IBM i 7.1. If you are running SAP, you might check out their links on the links page.

There are, as you know from reading The Four Hundred, new enterprise servers coming, and they are very powerful machines! And there …

There’s not much to report this week in PTF Land. Even HIPERs, which should come out every two weeks, are overdue. But you can still check out the usual archive of the IBM i PTF Guide below to help you work through the PTFs in chronological order.

This week wasn’t a total loss. I attended the Ocean Tech Conference, in Costa Mesa, California, where techno-nerds and old friends had great fun and learned a lot, too! Briefly, the new ACS tool is a work of art! Creating service programs is easier than ever, and the new PDM add-on for RDi …

Some weeks are crazier than others, and this is one of those weeks with the PTF Guide. We just checked in on PTF Land in Monday issue, but already there are more changes to report. Not the predicted deluge of PTFs we thought we might see, but there are some new HIPERs and WebQuery fixes you will want to look into. There are also a couple of new parms on the TELNET command to check out.

Here is a look at the Temporary Disk Space Recommended fixes in V7R2:

Somehow in the summer mix, we managed to skip IBM i PTF Guide number 25, so we are adding it to number 27 to get caught up. There will be another update on Wednesday, and then we will be all caught up. (It was a complicated month here at IT Jungle in July so far. We will leave it at that.)

Let’s start with number 25. There is an SSL certificate change coming for your HMCs. Check this link for the details.

On the IBM i Access Client Solutions front, check out the Readme File for 5733-XJ1. That’s Version: 1.1.8.0, …

We are running the IBM i PTF Guide in the Monday edition of The Four Hundred this week, just to keep you on your toes during our summer holiday schedule. There was a lot of stuff going on even with the July 4 holiday in the United States impending before we went to press.

This week we have new Groups for HIPER and Java, and, a new version of QMGTOOLS, for all three releases. The Java groups for each release have significant vulnerabilities. The fixes are included in the latest Java group for each release:

    • Release 7.3 – SF99725 level

Rochester, we have a problem. The statement below is copied directly from an IBM notice. I did not want any confusion about its contents. The SFTP services are showing up in some places already, but not everywhere. We will let you know where and when as we are informed.

IMPORTANT: Planned changes to ECuRep upload and download server.
    • All ECuRep servers will be requiring IBM ID authentication, soon. Please make sure that you own an IBM ID and that your processes will be able to use IBM ID authentication instead of anonymous log-in. (https://www.ibm.com/account/us-en/signup/register.html)

We are jumping around a bit this summer, so bear with us. We are running in both the Monday and the Wednesday editions of The Four Hundred this week to get caught up after a hiatus last week of the Wednesday issue. The news tends to be light in the summer, as you all know, so we often consolidate to one publication a week. This is particularly true after COMMON. Er, PowerUp 18.

So here is what is going on. The Spectre/Meltdown (SM) PTFs have been rolled into the latest Security Group level for IBM i 7.3, 7.2, and …

Hello good people of IBM i Land. We are back in the Wednesday edition of The Four Hundred, our usual home, but during the summer the IBM i PTF Guide may end up at the tail end of the Monday edition of the newsletter depending on the vacation schedule for the Wednesday edition. The news tends to be light in the summer, as you all know, so we often consolidate to one publication a week.

In any event, there is not much going on with IBM i and related systems software in terms of patches. This stands to reason …
