  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 21, Number 5

    February 6, 2019 Doug Bidwell

In the latest iteration of the IBM i PTF Guide, you will see that there is a new Database Group for IBM i 7.3. Also, you will find that IBM Navigator for i is affected by the security vulnerability that is posted in CVE-2019-4040, which you can read about more at this link. The patches relating to this security vulnerability are handled by latest group for the HTTP server for IBM i 7.2 and 7.3.

As for new links in the Guide  this week, there are none as yet – I am still catching up.

    Here is a …

Alright, good people of IBM i Land, here is what is new for the latest edition of the IBM i PTF Guide. There are HIPERs – short for High Impact/Pervasive, meaning you need to pay attention to these – for all three current releases, which means IBM i 7.1 (which is on extended support), IBM i 7.2 (which is still on regular support), and IBM i 7.3 (which is new enough to not care about how old it is yet).

There are also PTFs for the Backup and Recovery group for IBM i 7.2 and IBM i 7.3 releases. …

You might be feeling like this is your lucky day, what with getting two PTF guides in one week and all. But there isn’t much new going on in the latest PTF Guide following Monday’s edition. There are no new links to share, but we do have a tip you might find helpful:

Did you know you could set the defaults on the SAVE menu Opt 21 by using Opt 20 on the same menu? This will save you a lot of writing!

There are no new defectives this week, but here is the usual rundown of the last defective …

I feel a bit like I am having a small flashback to the Year 2000 software bug, but the trip is a little different but still involves the warping of time. As you see in IBM support bulletin MA47217, the Service Action Log within the Hardware Service Manager can’t seem to get over 2018. Literally. If you try to put either “2019” or “2020” in the From or To year fields, it flies up into its own black hole. This doesn’t appear to be affecting any other areas of Service Tools, or logging – so far.

    Here’s the precise …

The new thing is that it is 2019, and I am convinced it will be a better year.

In Volume 21, Number 1 of the IBM i PTF Guide, the first of the new year, there is a whole bunch going on. There are HIPER groups and new patches for Db2 Web Query for i V2.2.1 all around on the current releases – that means IBM i 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3. And there is a new Backup and Recovery groups, a new HTTP group, and a new MGTools group for the newer IBM i 7.3 and 7.2 releases.

    The …

Well, there is not much going on this week in IBM i PTF Land. There are no new groups, just a bunch of security vulnerabilities. To be precise, there is a Security Bulletin: Vulnerabilities CVE-2018-5407 and CVE-2018-0734 in OpenSSL that affect IBM i.

The PTFs to fix these vulnerabilities are:

    • Release 7.2 and 7.3: SI68727
    • Release 7.1: SI68726

For further information, check out this link.

New Links this week: Sorry, nothing new here, either. Ho, Ho, Ho!

The Guide at a glance: There are no new defectives this week (12/08), going for a new record! Here is the defective …

There is a new HIPER group, but no Security group, that is new on all three supported releases (V7R3, V7R2, and V7R1).

Just a reminder that between May 19 and 22 next year, the POWERUp19 conference, formerly known as the COMMON conference, is heading to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. With over 300 sessions for Power Systems and IBM i education, you can keep your skills up-to-date by creating a custom schedule based on your specific needs. It is catchup week (is that ketchup or catsup?) here at the IBM i PTF Guide, with the hiatus that The Four Hundred took during the Thanksgiving holiday in America. So today you get two for the price of one.

In Number 46 of the Guide, we see that there is a new version of Access Client Solutions, Build 1.1.8.1, as of November 12! Fun stuff!

There were also HIPERs and Security groups for all three current IBM i releases – yep, that means V7R1, too, as well as V7R2 and V7R3.

New Links that week: Nagios system …

Hello fellow residents of IBM i Land. In this week’s edition of the IBM i PTF Guide, there are new HIPER PTFs for all releases – that’s IBM i 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 – and there is a new Security group for IBM i 7.3. It is rather sparse this week, and we suspect it will kick up next week. So enjoy the relatively easy week of IBM i patching.

At a glance defective PTFs: There are no new defectives this week (11/01), looking good so far!

Defective PTF rundown (The last defective for each release):

The PTF Guide at IT Jungle has been keeping IBM i users up-to-date on Individual, Group, and Cumulative PTFs for many, many years. But this guide is only helpful if you use it, so please take the time to make sure you are current on your PTFs. This week was saw a Security Bulletin for Vulnerability CVE-2018-11763 in the IBM i HTTP Server that affects IBM i. However there were …
