  • Annual COMMON Conference Comes to You

    April 25, 2011 Dan Burger

Live from Minneapolis . . . it’s COMMON LiveTrack. Although you may be blue about missing out on the educational sessions, the vendor expo, and the networking with your IBM Power Systems brethren at the COMMON 2011 Annual Meeting and Exposition, you have an opportunity to see what and who you are missing during the May 1 through 4 event. Portions of the largest event exclusively for IBM i and Power Systems users will be free and a separate smorgasbord of educational sessions can be viewed for a fee ($299 for COMMON members and $399 for non-members).

The free peek streamed over the Internet includes the opening session from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. CDT on Sunday, May 1, and a session on real-life disaster recovery scenarios from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. CDT on Wednesday. The DR session is sponsored by MaxAva and presented by that company’s senior vice president, Simon O’Sullivan.

During the Sunday opening session, the speakers include COMMON president Pete Massiello, IBM Power Systems general manager, Tom Rosamilia, plus VP and business line executive for Power Systems, Colin Parris, and a key member of the IBM Watson artificial intelligence team, Eric Brown. This lineup will fill you in on the IBM and COMMON highlights from the past year and also announce the winner of the COMMON/IBM Power Systems Innovation Award.

The pay-per-view version of COMMON LiveTrack includes educational sessions on topics such as IBM i technology, IBM i 7.1, cloud computing, Rational Developer for Power, Systems Director, security, PHP, and DB2. The sessions are spread over three days: May 2, 3, and 4. Abstracts of all nine sessions can be found on this Web page.
