  • IBM Says No Passing On Power Systems Rebates To Someone Else

June 25, 2012 Timothy Prickett Morgan

Sometimes, you don’t know something is going on until someone in authority tells you that you have to stop doing it.

Last week, on the 24th birthday of the AS/400, IBM tweaked a bunch of already-running announcements with an interesting provision, which reads:

“[T]he ability to request that the IBM Redemption Center (IRC) make rebate checks/cheques payable to someone else has been removed. The IRC will disregard this information, if included, on any Rebate request forms it receives, and will send the rebate to the customer that acquired the eligible products.”

You would have assumed that this would have been the case from the get-go, given the possibilities for the perception of impropriety as well as actual shenanigans that passing on a rebate check to someone else might cause.

This new provision has added to the following deals in these specific announcement letters:

    • Software Solutions for IBM Power Systems First-in-Location rebate offering, announcement letter 312-072
    • Software solutions for IBM Power Systems competitive migration rebate offering, announcement letter 312-073
    • IBM Power Systems trade-in program, announcement letter 312-074
    • IBM i new POWER7 rebate offering, announcement letter 312-075

No other terms of these deals seems to have changed.
