BOSaNOVA Taps Leostream for Virtualization Partnership

System i shops using BOSaNOVA's terminal emulators will soon find another piece of software residing in the package: the Connection Broker from Leostream. The OEM deal announced by the companies last week is intended to make it easier for BOSaNOVA customers to manage their virtual desktop infrastructures, or VDIs.

BOSaNOVA kicked off its VDI initiative less than a year ago after rolling out its first round of virtualized thin clients. By preloading Citrix Systems' XenDesktop virtualization software on its Windows and Linux thin clients, BOSaNOVA hoped to help streamline the provisioning and management of thin client infrastructures, as well as preventing the computer's performance from eroding over time.

With the addition of the Leostream Connection Broker to the BOSaNOVA stack, customers will get a centralized location for defining and enforcing policies governing access to enterprise IT assets from thin clients, and connecting the VDI to other enterprise IT systems.

For starters, the Leostream Connection Broker will allow organizations to manage virtual thin clients alongside physical desktops. Systems administrators can log onto the Connection Broker product through a Web browser, and define how users will be allowed to access system resources.

The software also streamlines connections to directories such as Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, and OpenLDAP. It also handled security appliances such as firewalls, VPNs, and multi-factor authentication mechanism (such as a thumbprint reader); and network appliances such as load balancers and DNS servers.
