Transoft Brings German RPG-to-.NET Conversion Tool to U.S.

Thinking of migrating your RPG applications to .NET? Then you may be interested in a new offering announced yesterday by CS Group Transoft, which has inked a distribution deal bringing a new RPG-to-.NET conversion tool to the U.S. and the U.K.
CS Group Transoft, the new name given to Transoft following the Atlanta, Georgia, company’s acquisition by Computer Software Group in September 2005, is no stranger to iSeries migrations. The company has been involved in many iSeries migrations, and recently joined Microsoft ‘s Midrange Alliance Program to solidify its place in the cottage industry.
Now, the Transoft organization has a new weapon in its arsenal of migration tools: ML-iMPACT, a tool originally developed by the German company SYKORA-ML. The group says ML-iMPACT provides an automated means of converting RPG and CL code to C#, and converting DB2/400 data to SQL Server. It has been successfully used at several sites in Europe, and is now available in North America.
Paul Holland, chief executive officer of CS Group Transoft, says the partnership is good news for iSeries shops. “The combination of the conversion power of ML-iMPACT and the modernization experience of CS Group Transoft means that iSeries users are no longer presented with confusing, piecemeal, ‘do-it-yourself’ modernization options,” he says.
While many iSeries shops may object to Transoft’s assertion that the midrange marketplace is suffering from “a lack of skilled resources, reduced cost of ownership, and platform standardization,” the group may have the right mix of products and experience for the handful of customers looking to move everything off the platform.
