  • California Software Rebrands Itself as Infinite Software

April 23, 2007 Timothy Prickett Morgan

Legacy application migration environment specialist California Software has rebranded its company to reflect the name of its most recent products, Infinite Software. The company makes its living helping customers move their mainframe and i5/OS-OS/400 applications to Windows, Unix, and Linux platforms.

The fact that California Software’s products (as well as those that it acquired from the formerly distinct Unibol) are used to move applications off the System/3X, AS/400, iSeries, and System i5 platforms over the past three decades does not make the company popular among some platform enthusiasts. But, application rehosting environments are nonetheless part of the ecosystem, and indeed, span two different sets of ecosystems–the original platform and the one that is hosting the applications that used to run on it.

“The transition of the company from a regional software vendor in the AS/400 migration market to a global IT services and software organization is being realized now,” said Bruce Acacio, the company’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “As the company and its products have evolved and grown, both organically and acquisitively, the new name and international structure of the company, and the breadth of its products are well represented by the new name, Infinite Software.”

The company is headquartered in Laguna Nigel, California, and has offices in Asia, South America, and Europe; it claims to have over 100,000 installations of its software in over 56 countries. In addition to the Infinite lines of i5/OS and z/OS application rehosting environments, the company also sells a line of mortgage, banking, and auto loan applications called LPS. Infinite Software’s stock is traded on the OTC market under the symbol IFSC, having changed from CSWX. The new Web site for the company is www.infinitesoftwarecorp.com.
