  • Aldon Unveils Plug-In Support for WDSc 7.0

    May 8, 2007 Alex Woodie

System i change management vendor Aldon, which announced yesterday it was bought by a private equity firm, used last week’s COMMON conference as a forum for its latest product announcement: support for the latest release of IBM‘s WebSphere Development Studio Client (WDSc).

In March, IBM started shipping WDSc 7.0, which stirred a good bit of controversy among System i shops who felt IBM wasn’t including enough development capacity with the standard version of the tool. For better or for worse, there will undoubtedly be plenty of System i shops upgrading to the new release, which is now the standard for System i development.

As the standard IBM development tool, change management software vendors like Aldon have a hefty incentive to support their change management capability as a plug-in to WDSc, as they have done for previous releases of the tool. This is what Aldon has with its Aldon Lifecycle Manager System i Edition (LMi) version 7.5, which appears to be the first i5/OS change management tool to support the new version of WDSc.

LMi 7.5, which Aldon releasedlast month, introduced a new graphical compare and merge utility, new automated conflict resolution capabilities, and better integration into Aldon’s workflow tool.

Stay tuned to IT Jungle for more coverage of the acquisition of Aldon by Marlin Equity Partners.
