  • BOSaNOVA Launches Thin Client Management Software

    April 1, 2008 Alex Woodie

Thin client maker BOSaNOVA recently launched a new software product that gives administrators a central point of control over large number of thin client devices. BOSmanager Enterprise Edition works with BOSaNOVA’s own Windows- and Linux-based thin clients, as well as thin clients from other manufacturers.

In the ongoing debate about whether to use standard desktops or thin clients, better control over user workstations is one of the advantages often cited by proponents of the thin client architecture. After all, if thin client users are prepared to give up flexibility and local control over their PCs, they must gain something in return, and that something is higher efficiency through centralized control.

BOSaNOVA has always offered some degree of central control over its thin client devices, which are common used by System i shops. With the launch of the new release of BOSmanager Enterprise Edition, the Arizona company is giving administrators a greater level of control over thin client installations.

Support for group policies is the big enhancement with this release. BOSmanager Enteprise Edition allows administrators to create, modify, and restore the configurations of thin clients either individually or as part of a group. Administrators can also push device firmware updates down to thin clients, eliminating the need for end users to do any configuration. For example, a 5250 session could be automatically installed on a thin client device with no work from the end user, BOSaNOVA says.

BOSmanager Enterprise Edition supports BOSaNOVA’s goal of easing desktop administration activities through the use of thin clients, according to Martin Pladgeman, president of the company. “The BOSmanager Enterprise Edition provides advanced features for easier installation and maintenance of thin clients, saving valuable time and resources,” he says.
