  • New Tip Sheet for RDE and WDSc Programmers Arrives

    March 10, 2009 Dan Burger

An expanded version of tips and techniques for users of IBM‘s Remote System Explorer (RSE) and WebSphere Development Studio (WDSc) is available from System i Developer (SiD), the group of IBM i development experts who are also the organizers of the RPG & DB2 Summit. The quick reference guide, Favorite Keyboard Shortcuts for RSE (WDSC/RDi), contains 46 keyboard shortcuts and presents them on a single page. The flip side includes tips on customizing RSE that improve productivity. All of the shortcuts and tips work with Version 7 of RSE in both WDSc and the RDi development environment.

System i Developer’s Susan Gantner originally compiled the list of keyboard shortcuts as a teaching aid for students in her RSE courses. Positive feedback from students encouraged her to offer the guide to a wider audience via the System i Developer Web site.

With this release, the guide now offers 10 new keyboard shortcuts, including how to open and close context menus without using a mouse; how to make use of a split screen in the source editor to have two views of the same source member; and how to navigate to specific spots within your code, such as the top or bottom of the source or to/from subroutines and subprocedures. These new shortcuts join 36 previous favorites, including how to open, close, verify, and compile source members more efficiently.

Developers can download the reference guide for free at System I Developer’s Web site. Additional tips and FAQs for WDSc and RDi users, such as how to create split-screen editing for two different source members and how to use the Outline View, can also be found in the download section of the System i Developer Web site.

In addition to Gantner, the System i Developer team includes Jon Paris, Paul Tuohy, and Skip Marchesani. The next RPG & DB2 Summit is scheduled for April 15 through 17 in Orlando, Florida. For more info, check out www.systemideveloper.com.
