  • Solimar Goes 64-Bit with Print Management App

    March 31, 2009 Alex Woodie

Solimar Systems last week unveiled a new release of its flagship print management software, called Print Director Enterprise, and unveiled a preview of a new product called SOLitrack that’s designed to help track print jobs in busy, high-volume environments.

Solimar Print Director Enterprise, or SPDE, is a collection of Windows-based products aimed at centrally managing the production print environment. The software enables practically any printer to support practically any host, including proprietary environments like i-based IBM Power Systems servers or mainframes that rely on the AFP and IPDS print architectures.

With SPDE version 7.0, Solimar has brought support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista, which allows the product to run expanded workflows and to process very large files, the vendor says.

The new release also brings a new feature, called Dynamic Job View, which makes it easier for operators and administrators to manage their print jobs by automatically creating folder-based views of jobs entering the system. Solimar says it will make it easier for users to view print-job data in the way they are most accustomed.

Solimar also provided a preview of SOLitrack, which the San Diego, California, company is showing off at the AIIM On Demand Conference & Expo that’s being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this week.

According to Solimar, SOLitrack is a database-centric output management system that uses a Web-based interface to control and track print files, particularly in high-volume printing environments, where demands change on the fly. The system keeps track of print jobs as they are touched by various critical business processes, such as job accounting, security and scheduling.

“SOLitrack is like a GPS system for your documents,” says Mary Ann Rowan, vice president of sales and marketing for Solimar. “It tracks the job status and current conditions of high volume transactional print workflows. Print service providers and organizations with fleets of printers often have a difficult time knowing real-time status of their projects. SOLitrack removes the uncertainty.”

Solimar is also rolling out a new release of Rubika, its document re-engineering product. With version 3.0, Solimar has bolstered the product’s support for using interactive PDFs in document re-engineering workflows. The new version also gets deeper integration with Automated Document Factory (ADF) workflows and postal processing; and gains better document tracking capabilities.
