  • Quadrant Updates Fax Offering for IBM i

    October 19, 2010 Alex Woodie

Quadrant Software recently issued a new release of FastFax, a hardware/software solution that handles fax and e-mail traffic to and from the IBM i server. Organizations adopting FastFax version 4.8 will find faster fax hardware, wider integration with e-mail services, and support for IBM i version 7.1, among other features.

FastFax is a suite of products that integrates fax communications into IBM i environments. The hardware component of FastFax is a “black box” fax server, which is a regular X86-based PC computer equipped with Windows and one or more fax communication cards.

On the software side, FastFax integration with IBM i provides a number of capabilities, including: sending IBM i spool file output as either a fax or an e-mail; managing inbound faxes from Domino, Exchange, or other e-mail system; and even accessing fax capabilities directly from an IBM i-based application that Quadrant integrates with, such as JD Edwards or BPCS.

With FastFax version 4.8, Quadrant has expanded its e-mail integration capabilities. New FastFax Email Gateway components support the latest e-mail servers, including Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and the Domino e-mail server running on Windows Server 2008. This release also adds support for Google‘s e-mail service, called GMail.

Quadrant has also upgraded the black box component of the product. New models of the FastFax Processor feature support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. The company also delivered a new high availability version of the hardware.

Last but not least, Quadrant delivered support for IBM i 7.1, the new version of i5/OS that became available earlier this year. For more info, see www.quadrantsoftware.com.
