    April 6, 2011 Ashley Phix

Today is April 6, 2011. Venus is in Cancer and Mars is in Leukemia. The sun is ascending faster than the U.S. national debt, and descending faster than the value of the U.S. dollar. The moon is a harsh mistress. See what the stars have to say to you today.

Aries (March 21 – April 19): Work to improve the quality of comments in source code. What? is good, but Why? is even more important.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Master an unfamiliar feature of SQL today.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Instead of cloning a program, consider adding a parameter to control function.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Expand your horizons. Read a book about a programming language you don’t know.

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Review first, second, and third normal forms. Could your shop benefit from normalizing an existing database file?

Virgo (August 23 – September 22): If you’re still writing fixed-format RPG, cease and desist forthwith. Your future lies with free-format.

Libra (September 23 – October 22): Hard-coded library names can negatively affect your destiny. If your programs can’t run properly under the library list, ask yourself what you’re doing wrong.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): If the flow of data through your information system calls to mind a Rube Goldberg machine, take some serious training or find another profession.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Before you develop a routine, develop a throw-away routine to test it with.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Spend a day with someone who uses your software. You will find ways to improve your systems. Remember that machines are supposed to serve people, not the other way around.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Commitment control opens up new and exciting possibilities for application development. Look for a place to use it.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Solve a problem once. Reuse the solution over and over.
