  • European Distributor Taps Maxava for Data Resiliency

    September 2, 2015 Alex Woodie

LF SpA, an Italian distributor of spare parts for the food and beverage industry, has adopted high availability software from Maxava to protect its operation from downtime, the HA software recently announced.

From its headquarters in Cesena, LF ships a variety of spare parts for professional kitchens, washing equipment, commercial refrigeration, coffee machines, vending, and bar equipment. The company keeps more than 40,000 parts in stock, and maintains a 97 percent part availability rate, according to its corporate video.

The company’s 33,000 square-foot warehouse enjoys modern touches, such as a fully automated stocking system to go along with a paperless environment integrated into its IBM i-based ERP system.

The AS/400 clearly plays a big role in the operations of LF SpA, an Italian provider of spare parts, as shown in this frame grabbed from its corporate video.

Recently the company implemented an HA system to ensure that it’s able to keep its customers happy in the event that its primary IBM i server went offline. The company considered its options and selected the Maxava HA SMB product. The implementation was handled by WSS Italia, a Maxava partner based in Milan that also implemented Maxava at the Italian Stock Exchange.

LF Systems Information Manager Andrea Montalti explained the decision to adopt Maxava in a recent case study posted to the software company’s website. “Maxava HA gives us the assurance that our systems are safe and our business will never stop, even in a disaster,” Montalti says.

So far, LF has not had to conduct any unplanned role swaps, which suits the company just fine. However, LF’s administrators are confident that Maxava will enable them to continue working through an outage.

The Maxava software runs pretty much autonomously, requiring only five minutes per day from the administrator, according to the case study. “We like the usability of the solution, as well as the certainty of the result that Maxava HA delivers, that we can see from our role swap practices,” Montalti says. “We plan to continue to use and recommend Maxava.”
