  • Four Hundred Monitor, November 14

    November 14, 2018 Jenny Thomas

I learned a valuable lesson this week: never stick your hand in the middle of a dog fight. Now, that may seem like common sense, but sometimes in that moment of panic when you’re trying to figure out what to do, you do something dumb. But it got me thinking about the efforts of our community who look to help each other out whether it be through a free webinar, a virtual training, or a product so our readers will know exactly what to do – or not to do — if disaster strikes. IT Jungle also plays a vital role as a disseminator and collector of information in our IBM i world. To see what’s happened in in our special ecosystem this week, read on:

Top Stories From Outside The Jungle

(IBM Developer) Looking for a weekend project? IBM is giving away 1,500 drones as part of an open code contest. Check the link for details. Contest ends December 16.

(CNET) IBM supercomputers Summit and Sierra may have landed the top spots for the world’s fastest supercomputers, but China has a solid grip on the title of the largest number of fastest machines on the planet.

(CBS This Morning) In the wake of the Red Hat deal, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty is out making the morning show rounds, this time weighing in on tech industry equality and regulations, training, the cloud, and AI.

(The Enterprisers Project) Eight IT leaders remember their first IT jobs and share their real life on-the-job training stories.

Redbooks, White Papers, Blogs, and Other Resources

(ASNA) Pasting content from Word into a Web app can sometimes cause issues when later rendering that data on the IBM i. Here is a way to cleanse your pasted content to ensure that doesn’t happen.

(IT Jungle) Every now and then we have to give a shout-out to our own. This week we welcomed Dawn May to our contributor pool. Check out her first Guru contribution on configuring collection services.

(MuleSoft) Digital transformation is increasingly becoming a “when, not an if” for most companies. MuleSoft surveyed 650 IT decision makers across the globe. The research shows that three-quarters of companies are currently undertaking digital transformation initiatives and 80% say if they don’t complete those initiatives, their companies will lose revenue in the next 12 months. How does your company stack up? Download the connectivity benchmark report 2018 to find out: the top digital trends companies are investing in for 2018; the biggest challenges holding companies back from achieving their digital transformation goals; and the one strategy companies use to develop applications and projects more efficiently.

(GoAnywhere) This blog offers seven steps your company against spear phishing.

(SEA) Is your help desk still resetting passwords manually? Learn what you need to know about Self Service Password Reset on the IBM i.
