  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 26, Number 7

    February 19, 2024 Doug Bidwell

Aside from two new security vulnerabilities, it has been a pretty quiet week in IBM i PTF Land. There are some updates for the current releases of IBM i – that would be IBM i 7.4 and IBM i 7.5 that are both on standard support and IBM i 7.3 that is on extended support – and of course there are some new defective PTFs that Big Blue needs to make you aware of, as often happens because all modern platforms are complex and all of them sometimes have patches that have unintended consequences.

Let’s start with the security issues, as we often do.

First, we have Security Bulletin: Multiple Vulnerabilities in IBM Java SDK affect IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty due to January 2024 CPU, which you can find out more about at this link. Here is a rundown of the affected releases of WebSphere Liberty:

    Affected Product(s) Version(s)
    IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5
    IBM WebSphere Application Server 9.0
IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty Continuous delivery

Second, we have Software: Security Bulletin: IBM HTTP Server (powered by Apache) for IBM i is vulnerable to an attacker uploading arbitrary files and obtaining sensitive information (CVE-2023-45802, CVE-2023-31122), which you can find out more about here. Here are the patches by IBM i release:

IBM i Release	5770-DG1	PTF Number
    7.5 SI85712
    			SI85830
    7.4 SI85713
    			SI85828
    7.3 SI85714
    			SI85827
    7.2 SI85833

Here is the rundown of PTF Groups by IBM i release level since we last published:

    PTF Groups 7.5:

    • Temporary Storage PTFs
    • QMGTOOLS

    PTF Groups 7.4:

    • Temporary Storage PTFs
    • QMGTOOLS

    PTF Groups 7.3:

    • Temporary Storage PTFs
    • QMGTOOLS

Tip O’ The Week: CHGDEVTAP UNLOAD change now allowed while device is varied on. With IBM i 7.5 PTF MF70244, the Change Device Desc (Tape) command (CHGDEVTAP) will now allow the UNLOAD (Unload device at vary off) parameter to be modified while the device is varied on. Also, security note: When the Password Level (QPWDLVL) system value is set to 4, IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) version 1.1.9.0 or later is required to connect to that system using ACS.
