  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 26, Number 38

    October 7, 2024 Doug Bidwell

There is a hodge podge of stuff that you need to deal with this week when it comes to patching your IBM i system.

First, there is a security vulnerability. Read all about it in Security Bulletin: Vulnerability in Node.js affects IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools, Java Edition (CVE-2024-36138), which you can find out more about at this link. The issue can be fixed by loading an interim fix. IBM strongly recommends addressing the vulnerability now by upgrading to Node.js 18.20.4. Please follow Upgrading the Node.js that is used by Cordova or NodeRed to upgrade. This vulnerability affects IBM Rational Developer for i RPG and COBOL + Modernization Tools, Java Edition 9.6.0.0 – 9.6.0.13.

There are also Recommended Fixes for Infoprint Server for IBM i 7.2 and above, which you can read about here and which supersedes SI72232.

There is also an issue with ACS. Specifically, OSP Printer Session Does Not Automatically Connect at ACS V1.1.9.6, which you can read about here.

And finally, just a reminder about the Enhanced Customer Data Repository (ECuRep). Changes to data upload for IBM Support – Preparing customer firewalls and proxies for the upcoming infrastructure changes and disablement of deprecated ciphers – Enhanced Customer Data Repository (ECuRep) also used to upload files to Case. Read more at this link.

Here is the rundown of PTF Groups by IBM i release level since we last published:

    PTF Groups 7.4:

    • None

    PTF Groups 7.3:

Tip O’ The Week: If you have an uninterruptible power supply for your Power Systems machine, you need to check out QMGTOOLS/DSPUPSSTS, which you can find out about here and which displays the status of the UPS backing up the main power on the machine. And if you don’t have a UPS that is powerful enough to at least allow for an orderly shutdown of your Power Systems server in the event of a power outage, why not?
