  • RTC Touts POS Install at JDA Shop

    June 15, 2010 Alex Woodie

Retail Technologies Corp. (RTC), a Georgia-based company that specializes in providing software and services for retailers that use the Merchandise Management System (MMS) from JDA Software Group, recently completed the installation of more than 1,300 point of sale (POS) systems for Variety Wholesalers, a retail chain of 400 stores in the Southeast, the vendor announced recently.

Based in Henderson, North Carolina, Variety Wholesalers operates more than 400 retail stores in 15 states throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. If you have ever visited a Roses, Maxway, Bargain Town, Bill’s Dollar Store, Value Mart, Super Dollar, Super 10, or Treasure Mart store, you were shopping in a VM store.

Two years ago, VM set out to refresh its POS system. The company, which uses the i/OS-based MMS from JDA, had stringent requirements for its new POS. “Six vendors were given detailed specifications of our requirements,” says Jerry Frucht, senior vice president of IT for VW. “RTC was selected as the vendor that we felt most confident to be a partner in this effort. Over the past two years, I am even more convinced that we selected the best vendor to work with us throughout a long project.”

Last month, RTC announced that has completed the roll-out of its Windows-based StoreMS POS system on more than 1,300 IBM cash registers at 116 Roses stores and 171 Maxway/Super 10 stores.

In addition to StoreMS, VM selected and implemented another RTC product, called HTP-Link, which handles the communication between the Windows-based POS and the i/OS-based MMS solution from JDA. (RTC also sells a suite of add-on solutions for MMS called MMSxTend, but VW did not implement those.)

Overall, the product was a success for everybody involved. “Strong leadership by VW along with a ‘long haul’ commitment by the entire team was the edge to a very successful business architecture re-engineering,” says RTC’s vice president of store systems Duane McGlamery.

Get More Out of Your IBM i

With soaring costs, operational data is more critical than ever. IBM shops need faster, easier ways to distribute IBM applications-based data to users more efficiently, no matter where they are.

    The Problem:

For Users, IBM Data Can Be Difficult to Get To

IBM Applications generate reports as spooled files, originally designed to be printed. Often those reports are packed together with so much data it makes them difficult to read. Add to that hardcopy is a pain to distribute. User-friendly formats like Excel and PDF are better, offering sorting, searching, and easy portability but getting IBM reports into these formats can be tricky without the right tools.

    The Solution:

IBM i Reports can easily be converted to easy to read and share formats like Excel and PDF and Delivered by Email

Converting IBM i, iSeries, and AS400 reports into Excel and PDF is now a lot easier with SpoolFlex software by DRV Tech.  If you or your users are still doing this manually, think how much time is wasted dragging and reformatting to make a report readable. How much time would be saved if they were automatically formatted correctly and delivered to one or multiple recipients.

SpoolFlex converts spooled files to Excel and PDF, automatically emailing them, and saving copies to network shared folders. SpoolFlex converts complex reports to Excel, removing unwanted headers, splitting large reports out for individual recipients, and delivering to users whether they are at the office or working from home.

Watch our 2-minute video and see DRV’s powerful SpoolFlex software can solve your file conversion challenges.
