Ericom Supports Windows Vista with PowerTerm WebConnect

Published: April 17, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Terminal emulation software developer Ericom last week announced the general availability of PowerTerm WebConnect 5.5.1, a new release of its Web-based emulation software that adds support for Microsoft's Windows Vista clients, among other new features benefiting Windows terminal environments.

Ericom is unique among terminal emulation software vendors in that users can access traditional hosts, such as iSeries, mainframes, VMS, and Unix machines, as well as Windows servers from the same product: PowerTerm WebConnect Enterprise. In this respect, Ericom competes with traditional terminal emulation vendors, as well as with Citrix and Microsoft for Windows Terminal Services emulation, which gives it a special place in the market.

In addition to Windows Vista support, the upcoming release of PowerTerm WebConnect will feature several other Windows-oriented features, including better printing functionality, through the integration with triCerat's ScrewDrivers technology for "universal printing" capabilities. triCerat says its ScrewDrivers software solves many of the printing issues affecting Citrix, Terminal Services, and PowerTerm WebConnect users, such as not being able to print, slow printing, trouble finding their printers, or the inability to use certain print features.

PowerTerm WebConnect 5.5.1 users will also gain out-of-the-box access to RTO Software's TScale memory and CPU optimization technologies. RTO's software enables users to isolate workloads and minimize the impact that "rogue applications" can have on PowerTerm WebConnect, Citrix, and Terminal Services emulation sessions. Specific benefits touted by RTO include reduction of page faults, improved execution of multithreaded applications, faster component load times, and faster user log-in times.
