  • Linoma Delivers MFT Client for Android and iOS

    April 1, 2014 Alex Woodie

Let’s face it: Business users can’t always get to a full PC to handle important tasks. And in this bring-your-own-device (BYOD) age, they shouldn’t have to. Thanks to new software unveiled last month by Linoma Software, users who find themselves needing to move files to and from the IBM i server can now do so from the comfort of their mobile iOS or Android devices.

GoAnywhere File Transfer is a new iOS and Android app from Linoma that works with its GoAnywhere Services managed file transfer (MFT) product, which runs on IBM i hosts and other servers. The new app allows customers to use their phones or tablets to connect with corporate network and transfer files in a secure and compliant manner.

Linoma rolled out new Android and iOS apps for its MFT server.

The new app fills a pressing need for Linoma customers, who may otherwise be tempted to use a less secure cloud-based service, such as Dropbox, to transmit potentially sensitive files. An organization that keeps file transfer activities within the GoAnywhere product family can be assured that sensitive data is never exposed to the cloud, and is always transmitted in an encrypted manner.

“File management is a critical function in any workplace and, without a secure BYOD solution, users will find a workaround to maintain productivity,” Bob Luebbe, chief architect for GoAnywhere, says in a press release. “Delivering mobility tools that make it easier for workers to connect with corporate servers reduces reliance on policy enforcement to control data security.”

GoAnywhere’s file transfer activities are conducted using encrypted protocols, such as SFTP, FTPS and HTTPS. Authentication with the mobile GoAnywhere File Transfer app is handled through integration to LDAP and Active Directory resources. File transfer activity for the mobile app is logged, just as it is for Linoma’s Web and Windows clients, and is compliant with SOX, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and state privacy laws.

The mobile apps work only with GoAnywhere Services, one of three editions of Linoma’s MFT suite. GoAnywhere Services is primarily designed for organizations that need to do a lot of file transfers with external customers and business partners over the Web. It sits a rung below the full-featured GoAnywhere Director–which is designed primarily for use by larger organizations with internal MFT needs and that also includes advanced features like PGP and AES encryption, file conversion capabilities, and support for direct database connections–and GoAnywhere Proxy, a reverse proxy solution designed to provide an additional layer of security in MFT activities.
