August 13, 2013 Alex Woodie
Original Software, a developer of software test utilities for IBM i and other platforms, last week announced the introduction of a new technology that it says will help reduce the amount of time required for an ERP upgrade by 30 percent.
Original calls the new technology Animation, and it does exactly that. It creates animated recordings of a user performing a task in an ERP system. Recording the execution of business processes is useful in the context of ERP upgrades because it allows anybody with a PC to understand the exact functionality at issue.
This animated approach also streamlines

IBM To FTC: Make Oracle Stop Running Those Mean Server Ads Please
August 12, 2013 Alex Woodie
Oracle is back in lukewarm water over a line of ads that say its own Sparc and Exadata servers are between two and 20 times better than IBM‘s Power Systems servers. This time, instead of getting another slap on the wrist from an independent industry board that oversees advertising in the U.S, it could get a slap on the wrist from the Federal Trade Commission itself. It’s time for IBM, which called Oracle “a serial offender,” to take matters into its own hands.
On August 1, the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau recommended that the FTC

On May 13, Judge George Wu granted the summary motion requests of Vision, Sirius, and Eva Succi to dismiss some or all of Maxava’s claims against them. Judge Wu elected to grant partial summary judgment in favor of

Infor M3 13.1–the Last Big Release for Some Time
July 30, 2013 Alex Woodie
Infor is calling the newly released M3 13.1 the biggest new version of the ERP system in more than a decade. And with more than 500 new features across functional areas, as well as the Infor 10x GUI treatment, that certainly appears to be the case. But going forward, Infor plans to move away from the “big bang” approach, and toward a more rapid fire, service-pack approach, much like IBM has done with IBM i 7.1.
Infor M3 13.1 is the first major new version of the Java-based ERP suite since version 10.1 shipped in 2010, which was preceded by
